Getting Started | back to top

You have several important sources of information to help you get started with Team Workplace on iSeries.

  • Installing and Managing Team Workplace 6.5.1 for iSeries is your main source of information about installing and configuring a Team Workplace server. It also includes several iSeries-specific Administration topics.

The Installing and Managing guide (qp651ist.pdf) is available on your Team Workplace CD-ROM in the /Docs directory.

Follow the steps in the Installing and Managing Guide to prepare your system, install Team Workplace and configure your Team Workplace server. As part of the installation process, you will be directed to install and configure Domino™ 6.5.1 for iSeries. As long as you are only using Domino to run Team Workplace, you do not need to purchase a separate Domino server license.

  • This Readme file (Readme.htm) is intended to provide additional iSeries-specific information that is not available in the Installing and Managing Guide.

  • The Read1st file (Read1st.htm) is included only with the Team Workplace 6.5.1 for iSeries Web download. It provides supplemental information that you must be aware of when installing from the Web download rather than CD-ROM.

  • The Team Workplace Administrator's Guide is your main source of information about managing your Team Workplace server. Consult "Installing and Managing Team Workplace 6.5.1 for iSeries" and this Readme file for topics that are unique for iSeries.

The Administrator's Guide (TW651ADM.pdf) is available on your Team Workplace CD-ROM in the /Docs directory.

  • The Team Workplace 6.5.1 Release Notes document is applicable to all Team Workplace server platforms, including iSeries. It contains information about new features and enhancements, fixes, and known issues for Team Workplace 6.5.1. It also provides answers to common questions about configuring Team Workplace for offline use.

The Release Notes document is available from the online Team Workplace documentation library.

  • Domino Release Notes
When the Team Workplace installation guide directs you to install or upgrade Domino, you should first review the What’s New? and Things you need to know sections of the Notes, Domino and Designer Release Notes. In those sections you will find important information such as new features, system requirements, platform availability, and where to find documentation. The Release Notes file (readme) resides in the root directory of the Domino for iSeries 6.5.1 Volume 2 CD-ROM. The file is provided in Notes Database [NSF] and Adobe® Portable Document [PDF] formats. If you have problems reading the NSF file from the CD-ROM, copy it to a read-write media (such as a local hard drive) and then open the file with your Notes client. The most up-to-date copy of the Release Notes is available from the online Domino documentation library.

  • Visit the Lotus product page for Team Workplace to access the latest versions of all of the Team Workplace documentation and additional information that developers and administrators will find helpful. This includes the Team Workplace Developer's Guide, support information, articles, downloads, toolkit information, and access to the Team Workplace Forum. All of the Lotus product pages can be accessed from the following Web site: ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/products

  • The Team Workplace for iSeries web site is updated whenever additional information becomes available. Before installing and configuring your Team Workplace server, it is very important to review the latest information at the web site: ibm.com/eserver/iseries/quickplace

Note  Many of the documents are provided in Adobe Portable Document [PDF] format. The PDF files can be browsed with an Adobe Acrobat® Reader®. If you do not have Acrobat Reader installed already, current versions are available from the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com.

Installation Notes | back to top

This section contains additional information that you need to know about installing Team Workplace 6.5.1 for iSeries.

Review latest information before you start

Install Domino 6.5.1 Interim Fix 1

Team Workplace 6.5.1 requires Domino 6.5.1 for iSeries. In addition, you must download and install Domino 6.5.1 Interim Fix 1. To download Domino 6.5.1 IF1, see the Team Workplace 6.5.1 for iSeries Web page:
    www.ibm.com/eserver/iseries/quickplace/twp651.htm.

APIs have changed

If you are upgrading from a previous QuickPlace release and are currently using the QuickPlace APIs, you may need to make changes when you upgrade. Team Workplace 6.5.1 adds support for multiversion capable Domino releases. Here are some examples of changes that have occurred as a result:
    • the location of the Notes.jar file, as specified in the CLASSPATH environment variable.
    • directory links to various service programs used by the APIs, as specified by the PATH environment variable. Rather than explicitly setting the PATH environment variable, it is recommended that you use the SETDOMENV command.

More details about the API changes are available in "Installing and Managing Lotus Workplace (QuickPlace) 6.5.1 for iSeries" (qp651ist.pdf).

Known Problems and Recommendations | back to top

Team Workplace may not start if running initialization from a user application

Due to a change in Domino 6, applications running Team Workplace initialization must either be multithreaded or the application must set the following environment variable value to '1': notes_DEBUG_NAMELOOKUP_THREADS_NOT

Team Workplace will handle this automatically when the server is started. If the server is not currently active, the user application must set this environment varilable before performing the initialization. If the variable is not set, an exception will occur and the call stack will contain the following: QuickplaceInit, Init__14QuickplaceCoreFQ2... followed by __ReThrow.

Ensure directory and file ownership is correct

Incorrect directory and file ownership can cause a variety of problems, such as:

    • Users have problems accessing places that exist in the /quickplace/ directory. If this problem occurs, verify the QNOTES is the owner of of the directory and the files in the directory.

    • Exceptions occur during ADDLQPDOM (CPFA0A0 appears in the job log). In this case, check error messages and the job log to determine which directories or files are causing the problem.

    • Server startup fails (call stack displayed on the domino console points to QPJServer and FdMap just before the exception occurred) If this problem occurs, verify that QNOTES is the owner of the quickplace.properties file located in the server data directory.

Your security officer can verify the ownership of the various files and directories. If necessary, the security officer can use iSeries Navigator to change the owner of the directories and files to QNOTES. Alternatively, the security officer can use the CHGOWN command or option 9 (Work with authority) on the Work with Object Links command (WRKLNK).
