Getting Started | back to top

You have several important sources of information to help you get started with Lotus Sametime on i5/OS. (If you have problems reading an .NSF files from the CD-ROM, copy it to a read-write media, such as a local hard drive, and then open the file with your Notes client.)

  • Installing and Managing Lotus Sametime 7 for i5/OS (stinstall.pdf or stinstall.nsf) is your main source of information about installing and configuring a Sametime server. It also includes several i5/OS-specific Administration topics.

Both the .PDF and .NSF versions of the Installation Guide are available on your Lotus Sametime Components CD in the /Docs/i5OS directory. The Domino® database version of the guide (stinstall.nsf) is also available in the doc subdirectory of your Sametime server's data directory after you install Sametime on your system.

  • This Readme file (Readme.html) is intended to provide i5/OS-specific information to help you get started with Sametime 7. The Sametime for i5/OS Web site is updated whenever important new information becomes available. Before installing or upgrading Sametime, be sure to review the latest information at the Web site: www.ibm.com/eserver/iseries/sametime

  • The Lotus Sametime 7.0 Release Notes document (Strn70.pdf and Strn70.nsf) is available on your Sametime Components CD-ROM in the /Docs directory. Once you have set up a Sametime 7.0 server on your system, the database version of the Release Notes (Strn70.nsf) is available in the doc subdirectory of your Sametime server's data directory. The information in the Release Notes may have been updated since your media was created. Visit the online Lotus documentation library to view the latest information. Select "Sametime" to view the latest version of documentation that is relevant for all platforms, such as the Release Notes.

  • The Sametime Administrator's Guide is your main source of information about managing your Sametime server. Some topics that are specific to i5/OS platforms are discussed in Installing and Managing Lotus Sametime 7 for i5/OS.

The Administrator's Guide (sthelpad.nsf) is available on your Sametime Components CD-ROM in the /Docs directory. After you install Sametime on your system, the Administrator's Guide is available in the doc subdirectory of your Sametime server's data directory.

  • Lotus Technotes are available to answer many of your questions. Visit the Lotus Sametime Support Web site (www.ibm.com/software/lotus/support/sametime/support.html), specify appropriate search text (such as the technote number), and then click GO.

This section contains additional information that you need to know:

Requirements have changed for this release

If you are upgrading from an earlier release of Sametime, carefully review the information about planning your upgrade and the system requirements in Installing and Managing Lotus Sametime 7 for i5/OS. It is especially important to notice that both i5/OS V5R3 and Domino 7 are required.

If you are currently using a multi-version capable release of Domino, you can install Domino 7 on your i5/OS server at any time after you upgrade to V5R3. However, do not update your Sametime servers to Domino 7 until you are ready to upgrade them to Sametime 7.0. When you are ready to install Sametime 7, stop all of your Sametime servers, run UPDDOMSVR to upgrade each of the Sametime servers to Domino 7, and then install Sametime 7.0. Each of the servers is automatically upgraded to Sametime 7 during the installation process. If any of the Sametime servers has not been updated to Domino 7 before installing Sametime 7.0, the upgrade will fail for that server. To correct the problem, you must upgrade the server to Domino 7 and reinstall Sametime 7.0.

Product packaging has changed for this release

The product identifier has changed for Sametime 7.0. The new identifier is 5724J23; previous releases used 5733LST. Also, Sametime 7.0 consists of two product options, rather than just one as in previous releases. The *BASE product option includes the instant messaging and awareness capabilities of Sametime. Product option 1 includes the Web conferencing capabilities. When you install Sametime from the CD using the LODRUN command, both options are installed. If you are installing Sametime from the Web download, you must install both of the save files included in the download. See the read1st.html file (which is only included with the Web download) for more information.

Must accept software agreements

This is new for Lotus Sametime 7.0. You must display and accept the Lotus Sametime software agreements in order to install Sametime 7.0. Before installing Sametime 7.0, it is highly recommended that you pre-accept the software agreements located on the CD as directed in the installation guide. If you do not pre-accept the software agreements, the installation process will restore the product to the system, but then stop and wait for you to accept the agreements before completing the installation.

Known Problems and Recommendations | back to top

Save Meeting Room Whiteboard operation never completes

  • The option for "Save Whiteboard" appears to be available to moderators of meetings on Sametime 7.0 servers by default. However, unless you enable the capability, attempts to save the whiteboard contents will never complete. See Installing and Managing Lotus Sametime 7 for i5/OS for information about enabling save whiteboard. If you prefer not to enable this capability, instructions are also provided for changing the server configuration so that the option for "Save Whiteboard" is not available to meeting moderators.

Mixed release environment

  • If there are other Sametime servers in the same community with your Sametime 7.0 server, all of the servers should be upgraded to Sametime 6.5.1 or Sametime 7.0.

  • If you are using the Session Initiated Protocol (SIP), you must use the SIP Connectors that are delivered with Sametime 6.5.1 Fix Pack 1 (FP1) or Sametime 7.0. You can use either the i5/OS integrated SIP Connector or the standalone SIP Connector, but you must use the Sametime 6.5.1 FP1 or Sametime 7.0 versions for each SIP-enabled Sametime community.
